Probably best as a coffee table book for the occasional pickup and journey into the land of the strange. Wicked queens, blushing princesses and charming princes abound in the Folio Society’s beautiful collection of fairy tale books. Like Doyle's text, Ceccoli's acrylic-and-pastel artwork stays close to traditional images, while also injecting a modern vibrancy. To mark Folio’s 75th anniversary, Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story is published as a magical new edition, beautifully illustrated by award-winning artist Marie-Alice Harel and bursting with exquisite design details.

I could see the roots of Grimm’s Fairytales and Mother Goose in these stories, and there were several stories based around the Cinderella theme, Rumpelstiltskin and elements of Snow White.

The book left me wanting more… I wanted to read about the origins of these stories and why the details changed form region to region. The stories include Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Sleeping Beauty, Puss in Boots, Beauty and the Beast, and many more. She has a specialist knowledge of world myths, legends and folk tales and is on a mission to bring these wonderful tales alive for new generations of readers. From Brothers Grimm to Hans Christian Andersen, this beautifully illustrated anthology contains a range of the classic fairy tale stories any child would love to grow up reading. Some of the illustrations are gorgeous like: The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Princes and the pea and Rumplestiltskin while others are simply dreadful like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and The Snow Queen.

There are lengthy introductions, afterwords, and notes explaining why the stories are selected and where they are obtained from. She adapted a number of her short stories for radio and wrote two original radio dramas on Richard Dadd and Ronald Firbank. She wrote a fairly scholarly introduction to it, acknowledging colonial bias, etc, etc, and commenting on the content. While a large portion of these fairy-tales are extremely funny and silly, there's also a lingering sense of the macabre hiding between these pages. The bloodthirsty biographies of the world’s most infamous pirates are reproduced in this Folio edition of Captain Charles Johnson’s renowned work, including original woodcut illustrations and a fascinating introduction by Margarette Lincoln.

No sé, le dicen que su casa está hechizada y que tiene que desollar a su gato y comerse la piel para desencantarla, y se lo cree. Neil Gaiman’s raucous comedy Anansi Boys bursts into the spotlight in an extraordinary Folio collector’s edition, filled with vibrant images by artist Francis Vallejo and introduced by Afrofuturist Nalo Hopkinson. If you want to marry a prince, you need to be one of four things: a) pretty, b) smart, c) pretty and smart, or d) grown from a plant. We purchased it for our soon to be born Niece and I'm sure her parents will love reading stories to her from this book until she is old enough to read them herself.

Something about the pictures reminded me about my own childhood and I really wanted to like this volume, but none of us enjoyed the writing, it wasn't pleasant to read aloud or listen to, and some of the stories felt like something important had been skipped or glossed over. The hero must also embark on their own fairy tale to find the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and save the day with kindness and bravery (skills much more powerful than magic). Introduce your little one to the characters that enchanted you as a child and the nostalgic stories you could not put down! Encourage your little princess to be happy, healthy, and kind with a storybook that rewards her for her unique qualities. No obstante, me gustó más otro libro que leí de la autora el año pasado, La cámara sangrienta, que sí tenía relatos originales escritos por ella, retellings siniestros. Two orphaned peasant children, Pia and Enzio, find a pouch, stolen from the King and dropped in their path. His romantic stories rank among the greats, including Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast. In this delightful collection, Rose Impey brings fourteen best-loved fairy tales to life for children of today. Y son absurdos, como suelen ser los cuentos, en el sentido de que a un personaje le dicen X y, por extraño que suene, el personaje se lo cree a pies juntillas.

If you are easily disgusted or have a somewhat black and white view, this book is perhaps not for you.The second half makes a much better effort at global inclusiveness, though it still leaves a lot to be desired as a survey. The only exception is the set of short Inuit stories scattered throughout, which have such a distinct and unique voice that their independent heritage is quite obvious.
