I highly recommend for the hobbyist, but beware highlighting, just slip some copy paper between pages before to prevent bleed through.

There’s an expanded discussion of feedback stability, a detailed treatment of transresistance amplifiers, such as for photodiodes, coverage of unity-gain buffers and their uses, and two chapters on high-speed op-amps: one on the voltage-feedback variety, and a second for current-feedback types. Having had a little bit of time with it now, I’d be tempted to say that the third edition of AoE is incomplete without this additional material. For those unfamiliar with it, AoE, first published in 1980, is an unusually useful hybrid of textbook and engineer’s reference, blending just enough theory with liberal doses of practical experience. Conductors, cables, and connectors are examined to determine the non-ideal effects they can exhibit. Also shame, as though I was righter than Stack Exchange, I was not quite as right as Horowitz and Hill! For someone closer to beginner like me what is that book that looks like it’s printed on graph paper, Electronics Notebook or something?

For electronic engineering students, [this book] … will help you develop the intuitive understanding, which will make it easier to put the maths in context, and it will be invaluable when you do practical work for design projects. As director of the institute's Electronics Engineering Lab he has designed some 500 scientific instruments. If you are a hobbyist or maker who wants to acquire or improve a well-rounded knowledge of electronics then The Art of Electronics is an ideal book for you.My only ‘twinge’ is that it discloses and explains (in glorious graphical detail and with real part numbers) many topics that I thought were my personal trade secrets. At well over a thousand information-dense pages, though, that feels like an extraordinarily laborious way to get into a hobby that has next to no useful applications. Chapter 5 details every circuit artifact that I’ve encountered in the past 30 years in a thorough, pragmatic, and straightforward way. What I would say is that: This book does a poor job at explaining individual topics but that's fine. For instance, the authors tabulate and discuss the leakage currents of a collection of BJTs and FETs for comparison and include a section on BJT bandwidth and transition frequency.
