Description

The Crusher ANC 2 expertly facilitated the vocals in sinking to the depths of Davy Jones, with terrific clarity maintained right down to the most rumbling baritone.

The Personal Sound by Mimi feature claims two things when you go to make your profile: more sound will become audible, and the overall sound clarity will be improved. Such a passive mode is of course always positive, because if the batteries are empty and there is no socket in sight, the playlist can still be processed – provided, of course, you still have a headphone socket. Simply put, Skullcandy's ANC implementation doesn't come close to that of the Bose QC45 headphones in either of the above tests. However, if you're looking for a more substantial sound experience, personalized options, haptic feedback and some of the best sounding Skullcandy's we've tried, it's certainly worth taking a look at the Crusher ANC if you feel comfortable springing for the extra cost.

At the maximum bass level, the effect is the same for the deepest lows, but you just don't notice it as much because the drum loop takes a massive step forward. So I would suggest you to use another earpads or the same you used on the EVO's to "almost" match the bass rumbling on the ANC's, I can now feel the bass on my top head, something funny that happens in the EVOs. For instance, deviating from the script with “Hey Skullcandy, open Spotify” or any verb will result in nothing. It’s reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro plastic, and although less prone to dust collection, it does pick up fingerprints.

If your interest in the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 leans more towards the ANC side than the Crusher, there are better options available for the money. At 332g, you may initially think the Crusher ANC 2 could do with going on a diet, as it’s one of the heavier pairs of headphones in the premium space. The listening test also warrants a few red marks against it; due to the background noise intrusion, some very quiet tones are overshadowed and difficult to notice. However, if you don’t overdo it with the haptic bass, many old groovy numbers are granted new life with a more modern angle and extra detail. There’s still metal being used in the headband, which makes them feel study and the adjustment silky.

Upon first listen to Skullcandy’s latest, I found myself literally saying “wow” out loud, due to the bass served up being so deep it quite literally shook my skull. Better still, the headband padding is coated in a soft fabric, which prevents it snagging on your hair. You can also adjust the sensory bass intensity – the slider acts the same as the wheel, but it also lets you see your current intensity – tweak the EQ and set up a personalised sound profile. A notched plastic headband adjusts easily, and it’s one of the areas that looks a bit cheap compared to the rest of the headphones.

Meanwhile, the majority of the headphones are covered in a nearly (but not “true”) black matte texturized plastic. The Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2, come with an app where you can just customise the button configuration, and a custom equaliser, which is great and really easy to use. I’m not sure how many people spend time feeling their headphones, but the Crusher ANC 2 is silky smooth on the earcups and that middle headband section introduces a bit of roughness.Recently, some premium headphones have ditched articulating hinges, but it’s nice that the Crusher ANC 2 retains swiveling ear cups and hinges to make it more compact for music on the run. As such, you’ll want to be careful unless you’re keen for some seriously unpleasant ringing in the ears. Get ready to experience the patented, skull-thumping power of Crusher Sensory Bass - now combined with the ultimate audio customisation of Personal Sound.
